Sebastian River Medical Center to Begin Major Expansion Project
SEBASTIAN, FL – Sebastian River Medical Center is planning final details for construction of an entirely new 10 room operating suite and 48 additional private patient rooms designed with the patient experience in mind.
When complete, the project will add nearly 94,000 square feet and more than 20,000 square feet of the existing facility will be renovated. New equipment and expansion of specialty services areas will include seven surgical suites, two endoscopy rooms and one bronchoscopy procedure room. This will increase the number and scope of procedures that can be performed at the hospital.
Renovations to the existing facility and the addition of a three-story tower will ultimately create 200 licensed beds for the hospital. The project is expected to break ground in the second half of 2016 and be complete within 24 months.
“We are excited to be involved with the planning and preparation of such a tremendous asset to our community. Our goal is to continue to attract the best physicians and surgeons to our hospital and to be the hospital of choice for patient care,” said Kelly Enriquez, CEO of Sebastian River Medical Center. “Most importantly, the new tower will allow our patients the privacy of an individual room. This project will allow us to better support the numerous new services we provide, benefitting our patients for many years to come.”
“Sebastian River is committed to providing quality care and our surgeons and primary care physicians have been highly engaged in the planning process for this significant expansion,” said Dr. Kirk Maes, Chief of the Medical Staff. “These improvements will support our physicians and nurses as they provide patients with a range of quality care and services.”
Final design documents are being prepared for review by the Florida Agency for Healthcare Administration.
“We consistently explore ways to better support our nurses, medical staff and all caregivers in their work to provide quality care for patients,” said Anthony Donini, Chair of Sebastian River Medical Center Board of Trustees. “Through this investment, we are enhancing our ability to deliver quality care and creating a stronger facility to serve our community into the future. Kelly Enriquez and her staff are to be congratulated for their efforts on this significant project.”
Sebastian River Medical Center was recently recognized as a Joint Commission Top Performer for the fifth year in a row, a record achieved by only 23 hospitals in the United States. The Top Performer award looks at key quality indicators in the care of congestive health failure, heart attack, and pneumonia.
